Spinghar Institute of Higher Education (Nangarhar) organized an academic competition among students of the Faculty of General Medicine, Dentistry and Medical Laboratory Technology under the theme of "Diseases Related to Narcotic Drugs." The competition was attended by the jury panel, the institute’s vice-chancellors, the deans and deputies of the three faculties, faculty member (lecturers), heads of various administrative units and students from different faculties.
At the opening speech of the competition, Fazal Rahman Ziarmal, the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, expressed his gratitude to the deans of the faculties, the jury members and other contributors for organizing the event. He elaborated on the general structure of the competition, the scoring process, and the significance of selecting the topic. He also emphasized that such programs are beneficial for knowledge exchange, fostering healthy competition and enhancing the students’ capabilities and skills. He encouraged students to actively participate in similar events.
The competition was designed in two segments:
1. In the first segment, the team leader of each group delivered an academic presentation on a specific sub-topic related to the main theme.
2. In the second segment, team members were asked various questions related to the competition’s central topic.
The jury panel evaluated the first segment based on a 50-mark scoring system through designated assessment forms. Similarly, the second segment was also graded out of 50 marks, based on the answers provided by each group to the posed questions. The questions and evaluation criteria were prepared in advance by the jury panel to ensure a transparent process in the presence of the participants.
For the competition, the selected students were divided into three groups:
- Group A: General Medicine Faculty
- Group B: Medical Laboratory Technology Faculty
- Group C: Dentistry Faculty
Based on an impartial assessment and results announcement by Shah Maqsood Adilzai, Head of Examinations and Results Coordination, the Dentistry Faculty students secured first place, General Medicine Faculty students took second place and Medical Laboratory Technology Faculty students achieved third place. The team leaders and group members of all three teams were awarded various prizes in recognition of their participation and achievements.
It is worth mentioning that the three faculties and the Cultural Committees of Spinghar Institute of Higher Education have previously conducted both internal and general competitions aimed at improving students' academic levels, enhancing communication, questioning,and debating skills, which have proven to be highly effective in these areas.
