An academic competition was held among the students of the Faculty of General Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry and Faculty of Medical Laboratory Technology at Spinghar Institute of Higher Education (Nangarhar) on the topic of Diseases Related to Narcotic Drugs. The competition was attended by jury members, the institute’s chancellors, deans and deputy deans of the three faculties, faculty members, heads of various administrative units, and students from different faculties.

During the opening speech, the Vice Chancellor of Students Affairs, Fazal Rahman Ziarmal, extended special gratitude to the deans of the faculties, the jury members and all involved collaborators for organizing the competition. He elaborated on the general procedures and scoring criteria for the competition and emphasized the importance and necessity of the chosen topic. Mr.Ziarmal also highlighted that such events are beneficial in fostering the exchange of academic ideas, promoting healthy competition and enhancing the skills and capacities of students. He encouraged active participation from students in similar programs.

The competition was planned in two parts:

1. Scientific Presentations – In this segment, group leaders presented on specific subtopics related to the main theme.
2. Question and Answer Session – In this segment, group members responded to questions related to the primary topic.

The first segment carried 50 points, assessed based on specific evaluation forms prepared by the jury. The second segment also carried 50 points, awarded based on the accuracy of answers provided to the questions. The questions and scoring were arranged transparently by the jury before the start of the competition and announced in the presence of participants.

Students participating in the competition were grouped as follows:

• Group A: Students from the Faculty of General Medicine.
• Group B: Students from the Faculty of Medical Laboratory Technology.
• Group C: Students from the Faculty of Dentistry.

According to the impartial assessment and results by the jury, Group C (Faculty of Dentistry) won first place, Group A (Faculty of General Medicine) secured second place and Group B (Faculty of Medical Technology) achieved third place. Prizes were awarded to the group leaders and members of all three groups in recognition of their participation and achievements.

It is worth mentioning that Spinghar Institute of Higher Education, through its three faculties and cultural committees, has previously organized similar intra- and inter-faculty competitions aimed at improving students' academic levels and strengthening their skills in communication, questioning and debate. These competitions have proven to be highly impactful in achieving these objectives.
